December 15, 2010 Hi Tracy and Burt, I just wanted to touch base and let you know that we're doing absolutely great. I haven't thought of the perfect name yet--and when you've had pets you named Freddie Mercury and Queen, Wilshire Coronado, Joy Noelle, etc., you can't just slap a boring, "normal" name on him!--but the dog formerly known as Lieutenant and Zen is amazing and I am thrilled to have him. After we'd gotten settled in yesterday, I took him back outside and sat on the grass. He plopped himself down in front of me, in full contact with my legs, looking as regal as a Dane can . . . and I started sobbing. We were facing Freddie's "lemon burial ground" (where he'd bury lemons when he got done playing with them--and where we buried some of his ashes), and I guess all the emotions of the weekend, the reality of finally having a new boy . . . it just all came out. Lieutenant/Zen gave me this deep, long, mournful look--and then promptly started licking and slobbering all over my face. It's all good. Thank you both for making my mom and me feel welcome, and especially for doing what you're doing. Your dedication and kindness are obvious, and very much appreciated.
